‘I don’t support the intimidation of MPs’ – Rachel Reeves on Gaza

Rachel Reeves has told the News Portal Space that she supports the right to protest, but not the intimidation of MPs.

Speaking with Laura Kuenssberg, the shadow chancellor was commenting on protests calling for a ceasefire in Gaza which targeted Labour MPs.

Labour leader Keir Starmer suffered a major rebellion in parliament over his stance on the Israel-Gaza war, with 56 of his MPs voting for an immediate ceasefire.

Eight shadow ministers resigned or were sacked after they refused to follow the orders of Sir Keir – who backed short humanitarian pauses in the fighting.

Ms Reeves said she was concerned about the “huge pressure that MPs have been put upon, both leading up to the vote but also what we have seen this week.”
