The NHC said Barry was downgraded to a tropical depression after the system made landfall on Sunday, and dissipated by early Monday morning.

The system was designated as Tropical Depression Two on Sunday and strengthened into Tropical Storm Barry, the second named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, as it spun across the Bay of Campeche on a path toward eastern Mexico.

The government of Mexico had issued Tropical Storm Warnings for areas along the coast as Barry neared, but those have since been canceled after the system made landfall and began to move inland.

The NHC said that Barry should dissipate over eastern Mexico on Monday, but heavy rain is likely to continue over the next few days.

Forecasters warned that Barry or its remnants could produce about 3-5 inches of rain, with some locally higher amounts of around 10 inches across portions of the Mexican states of Veracruz, San Luis Potosi and Tamaulipas through Monday.

That precipitation could produce life-threatening flooding and mudslides, especially across areas with higher terrain.
